Quick take

  • If you join the newsletter, Mailchimp stores your email address (and name, if you give it) so we can send it.
  • Google Analytics, with advertising features switched off, tells us which pages people read.
  • Google Fonts and our web host see basic technical data when you load a page.
  • We don't sell data, show ads or build advertising profiles.

Who we are and what we collect

Inspired For Yoga is an independent guide to home yoga practice. In this policy, "we" and "us" are the people who run the site, and "you" is anyone who visits it. Questions about this policy can go to hello@inspiredforyoga.com or through the contact page.

We collect two kinds of information:

  • What you give us. Your email address, and your name if you choose to add it, when you sign up for the newsletter. The content of any email you send us, along with your address.
  • What is recorded automatically. Technical details logged by our host, and usage data gathered by Google Analytics, both described below.

The site has no accounts, no payments and no forms asking about your health. You can read every page without telling us anything.

How we use it

We use personal information only to:

  • send the newsletter to people who asked for it;
  • reply to messages and act on corrections;
  • see which routines and guides are useful, so we know what to improve;
  • keep the site running and secure, and deal with abuse or technical faults;
  • meet legal obligations.

Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on your consent for the newsletter and on our legitimate interest in running and improving a useful website for analytics, logs and replies.

Newsletter

Our newsletter is delivered through Mailchimp, which stores subscriber details for us and uses them only to send our emails. Mailchimp can record whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We look at these numbers in total, to learn which topics readers find useful, and not to watch individual subscribers.

Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also ask us to remove you by email. After you leave, we may keep your address on a suppression list so you are not added again by mistake.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a service from Google LLC, to understand how people use the site. It sets cookies and collects information such as which pages you view, how long you stay, where you came from, your general location and the kind of device and browser you use. Google processes this data on our behalf.

We have not turned on Google's advertising features, and we don't use Analytics data to target ads. You can see how Google uses data from sites that use its services, install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or block cookies in your browser. The site works normally either way.

Apart from Analytics and anything strictly needed for a feature such as the newsletter form, the site sets no cookies and uses no tracking pixels. Because we don't track you across other sites, we don't respond differently to "Do Not Track" signals.

Fonts, hosting and email

Google Fonts

Our typefaces load from Google Fonts. Your browser asks Google's servers for the font files, so Google receives your IP address and basic browser details. Google says it uses this to serve fonts and not to build ad profiles; see the Google privacy policy. If you block these requests, your device's own fonts are used instead.

Hosting logs

The server that hosts the site keeps standard logs of each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and your browser's user agent. We use them to keep the site secure and working, for example to spot attacks or broken links. We don't use them to identify readers or combine them with other data.

Emails you send

We use your message only to read it, answer it and, for corrections, fix the page concerned. Writing to us does not add you to the newsletter. Please leave out health details: we can't give individual medical advice and don't need them to answer a question about a routine.

Sharing, storage and security

We don't sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the providers that help run the site (our host, Mailchimp and Google), and only so they can do that work. We may disclose information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or someone's safety, or if the site changes hands.

Some providers process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, they rely on recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep things:

  • Newsletter: while you are subscribed, plus a suppression record afterward.
  • Emails: as long as they are needed to deal with your message, then deleted within a reasonable period.
  • Analytics: according to the retention period set in Google Analytics, which we keep at the shorter options available.
  • Server logs: a limited period, usually a few weeks, unless needed to investigate a problem.

We take reasonable steps to protect information, but no website or email system can be completely secure.

Your rights, children and changes

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit or object to how we use it, take a copy of it, or withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email hello@inspiredforyoga.com. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

The site is written for adults and is not aimed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has signed up for the newsletter, tell us and we will remove the details.

We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. The date at the top shows the latest version, and significant changes will be noted on this page.
